November 2002 -
Motorola announced that it is enhancing its open standards-based
portfolio to operators around the globe through a series
of agreements and offerings that will pave the way for
more personalized mobile communications experiences.
These experiences are based upon Java(TM) 2 Platform,
Micro Edition (J2ME(TM)) technology, which provides
network operators the greatest opportunity to differentiate
their services by offering a variety of popular applications,
from games to productivity tools.
The
Motorola's Java solutions portfolio includes handsets,
content, billing and provisioning servers in 4thpass'
Mobile Application System, and software developer support.
This portfolio makes Motorola's end-to-end offerings
with this customizable technology unrivaled in the industry.
The open J2ME development ecosystem increases the mobile
subscriber base, benefiting all mobile communications
stakeholders.
"Motorola
is committed to investing in strategic relationships
which let us provide powerful Java based solutions to
our operator customers as fast as possible," said Mike
Bordelon, Corporate Vice President and General Manager,
Global Product Marketing & Planning, in Motorola's Personal
Communications Sector. "For that reason, Motorola has
joined forces with several third-party application developers
and content providers to develop and demonstrate useful
and fun mobile solutions."
New
Alliances Expand Entertainment and Business Offerings
Motorola's
commitment to making the phone an object of personalization
and creativity is increasing. For the entertainment
market, Motorola's goal is to allow people to share
their fun regardless of geography. For the business
market, the goal is quick access to vital information
that increases productivity. This includes financial
information and e-mail.
In
the gaming market, Motorola and Handango, a leading
publisher of mobile software, today announced the availability
of a wide array of additional content for Motorola handsets
at www.hellomoto.com
. Here, consumers can purchase more than 1,500 wireless
games, ring tones, graphics and themes. The mobile applications
will work on Motorola's recently released line of data-
capable phones including the V60i, C330 and T720. In
addition, ring tones are available for some legacy models
of Motorola phones.
"Motorola's hellomoto.com will provide consumers with
a one-stop- shop to personalize their wireless experience
with enhanced, new content," said Sue Fullman, corporate
vice president of Customer Solutions and Support for
Motorola's Personal Communications Sector. "Our online
presence demonstrates the depth and breadth of J2ME
applications that Motorola can provide to mobile operators
to help grow their average revenue per user and increase
subscriber loyalty."
In
the business space, Motorola and HillCast Technologies
today announced the shipment of MidCast(TM), the world's
first financial application that streams continuous,
real-time financial market information to Motorola Java
technology-enabled mobile phones. This suite of financial
applications is now available to users of Java(TM) technology-enabled
phones, including the Motorola V60i, V66i, T280i, T720,
A388, and A008 models, as well as future Java technology-enabled
models, at www.mymobilesoft.com
.
MidCast
is the first network-enabled J2ME technology-based financial
application to hit the US market for GSM/GPRS networks.
This Java application is already available through the
Motorola portal in Asia at www.MyMobileSoft.com. It
streams secure financial data to the devices in real
time, based on the stock symbols the user has requested.
Users can select the format they want to receive information
about the stocks they follow, including Level II data
and real-time plot charts, which adjust dynamically
as the market fluctuates.
Separately,
in an agreement with Micro Java Network, the largest
independent network for wireless Java development, Motorola
will quickly provide consumers with new and innovative
business and personal productivity applications. The
applications will be available for download and will
be compatible with a range of Motorola's Java technology-enabled
mobile phones.
This
agreement represents an expansion of the Micro Java
Network applications available in Motorola's portfolio,
as MJN currently supplies applications to iDEN products.
Motorola is expected to sell the applications to consumers
via its online software store during the fourth quarter
of 2002. Motorola also works closely with network operators
to deploy, host and sell a variety of wireless applications
on their portals in the global, wireless market.
