May 2003 - End2End, managed service provider for mobile
data services, and BitArts, the UK-based developer of
solutions for digital rights management, today announced
a partnership to deliver the industry’s first digital
rights management solution for mobile Java downloads.
As
part of the co-operation, BitArts’ secure license management
platform, ServeKey, will be integrated with End2End’s
carrier-grade service delivery infrastructure and offered
as a feature for End2End’s managed service solutions
for Java downloads.
The
solution will provide protection and digital distribution
control for Java content downloads to mobile handsets
by tracking the sale and subsequent license fulfilment
of the downloaded content, thus enabling mobile operators
and service providers to actively combat the increasing
risk of mobile Java software piracy.
In
order to achieve maximum compatibility with multiple
networks and content portals, BitArts and End2End are
actively working towards OMA compliance and the proposed
OMA DRM version 2.0.
“With
the rapid growth in the mobile content download market,
content piracy has become an important issue for mobile
operators and services providers”, said Patrik Nilsson,
VP, Partnerships, End2End. “We are committed to providing
our customers with best-of-breed digital rights management
solutions to address this challenge”.
“This
is a significant step forward for the mobile industry,”
commented John Safa, CTO, BitArts. “Mobile Phone software
piracy is a disaster waiting to happen and could easily
reflect the problems now faced by the music industry
through downloaded MP3’s. There are significant revenue
opportunities for the industry in mobile software and
by implementing strong anti-piracy controls from the
very start everyone in the delivery chain will ultimately
benefit”.
