 | WEEE Regulations
The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive is now UK law. The legislation aims to make producers pay for the collection, treatment and recovery of waste electrical equipment. The regulations also mean that suppliers of equipment like high street shops and internet retailers must allow consumers to return their waste equipment free of charge.
The amount of WEEE we throw away is increasing by around 5% each year, making it the fastest growing waste stream in the UK.
- Much of the UK’s WEEE ends up in landfill, where the lead and other toxins it contains can cause soil and water contamination. This can have a harmful effect on natural habitat, wildlife and also human health.
- Many electrical items that we throw away can be repaired or recycled. Recycling items helps to save our natural finite resources and also reduces the environmental and health risks associated with sending electrical goods to landfill.
Distributors of new Electric and Electronic Equipment (EEE) have a part to play in reducing the amount of WEEE going into landfill sites.
MobileGuru is obliged under these regulations to offer our customers free take-back of their WEEE on a like-for-like basis when they buy a new Electrical or Electronic product from us.
For example, if a customer bought a new mobile charger from us we would accept their old mobile charger and prevent it going into a landfill site by disposing of it safely. Customers must return their WEEE item to us within 28 days of purchasing their new item.
Under the WEEE Regulations, all new electrical goods should now be marked with the crossed-out wheeled bin symbol shown above. Goods are marked with this symbol to show that they were produced after 13th August 2005, and should be disposed of separately from normal household waste so that they can be recycled.

How do I recycle my old products?If the symbol shown above appears on your product it means that you can return this waste electrical equipment to MobileGuru when you are purchasing a new product from us under our distributer obligations*
>> When you have finished with a WEEE product, please do not dispose of it using your domestic waste bin, as it will not be recycled. Please use one of the following disposal options instead:
>> To ensure that your WEEE is recycled in accordance with the regulations, you must ensure that the goods are not put in the bin, but are separately disposed of by taking the WEEE to your local designated collection facility. This would normally be your local civic amenity site (recycling centre). To locate your local site, contact your authority (http://www.recycle-more.co.uk/la/la_detailsla.aspx)
>> Contact us by using our contact form at the top of this page, so that we can provide you with a return reference number and details of our WEEE recycling address
>> Please quote your MobileGuru product order number and describe the item that is to be recycled
>> Please carefully package any item to avoid transit damage
>> We will then deal with the waste product in an environmentally responsible manner, at no cost to you
*It has to be like for like (e.g. a Mobile Charger for a Mobile Charger, not a Bluetooth headset for a Mobile Charger).

UK Battery DirectiveWhat is the Batteries Directive?
<> This directive sets out clear guidelines for the collection, treatment and recycling of waste industrial, automotive and portable batteries.
<> All batteries are required to be labelled with the appropriate battery label.
<> The regulations have been put in place to ensure that products are recycled using best available treatment, recovery and recycling techniques to ensure human health and high environmental protection.
How do I know if my product is covered?
<> If the symbol shown here is found on any of your goods, it means that the product is covered by the Batteries Regulations.
How do I recycle my old batteries?
<> Under the Waste Battery Regulations, Mobileguru are now offering a take back scheme for all portable waste batteries. You can return your waste batteries to our business premises in person (please do not post) at Suite 107i, Chaucer House, 134 Biscot Road, Luton, LU3 1AX.
<> Alternatively, you can find your local waste portable battery recycling facility at www.recyclenow.co.uk. Most supermarkets and shops that sell batteries will have collection bins for used batteries, and some town halls, libraries or schools may also set up collection points. End-users may find stores in their local area more accessible.
