26 September 2003 - Nokia unveiled a completely new
product group - Nokia Imagewear. Combining style, design
and wearability with easy to use technology these products
provide unique and new ways for users to express themselves.
The first products in the series are the Nokia Medallion
I & II and the Nokia Kaleidoscope I. These products
will be available in Europe, US and selected markets
in Asia Pacific with shipments planned to begin during
the first quarter of 2004.
"These new intelligent wearables, the Nokia Medallions
and the Nokia Kaleidoscope I, have been designed for
people who want to stand out from the crowd with a wearable
digital "locket" or small pocketable "viewer" that can
be personalized," said Mr. Frank Nuovo, Chief Designer
& Vice President, Nokia Design. "Technological innovations
are now making these small, intelligent, wearable accessories
possible. Nokia intends to lead and shape this exciting
new mobile lifestyle as it emerges over the next few
years."
The Nokia Medallions are designed for carrying, wearing
and displaying images reflecting your personal style
or emotion. The images are transferred wirelessly from
a compatible mobile phone via infrared, or from a computer.
You can take a snap shot and upload it in an instant
via infrared to the wearable display. Wear either around
your neck or use the wrist strap with the Nokia Medallion
II and wear it as a bracelet.
The Nokia Medallion I stores up to eight still images.
The color image and the sleek steel frame are housed
in a stylish choker. The image conceals a backlit timepiece
revealed at the touch of a button. When the timepiece
is hidden, the Medallion I is backlit with a soft light
that slowly fades in and out. The Nokia Medallion II
is a sibling product to the Nokia Medallion I, the difference
lies in the industrial design, housed in classic steel,
which provides a subtle, minimalist backdrop for desired
images.
With the small Nokia Kaleidoscope I, you can upload
digital images and easily store and carry them with
you. A full color virtual display, together with infrared
transmission and discrete good looks, makes the Nokia
Kaleidoscope I an ideal pocketable "viewer" for sharing
selected digital images with friends and family. The
Nokia Kaleidoscope I uploads images via infrared or
from a compatible memory card (MMC).
