24 February 2004 - Alcatel and BeTomorrow, a French
specialist in mobile entertainment, today announced
the launch of, as a world premiere, Xploded, the first
mobile Java? on-line game available in a UMTS environment
for up to forty simultaneous players.
Visitors at 3GSM World Congress in Cannes, France,
will be given the opportunity to join a permanent game
session of Xploded on the Alcatel booth (hall 1) and
experience it in the Palais des Festivals premises.
As with the other games in the Alcatel/BeTomorrow portfolio,
Xploded is a Java MIDP-based game which makes it available
for the vast majority of mobile service providers, mobile
devices and subscribers.
The game will allow mobile operators to provide attractive
services to subscribers by opening several permanent
game spaces, always available for players to join. Focusing
on end-user communities, Xploded arenas will be accessible
from both mobile handheld and fixed devices (PC connections).
Xploded is an addictive multiplayer action game in
real time. The levels are made of destructible blocks
forming a maze. Each player controls a single character
which has to fight his way in a cartoon universe, destroying
blocks and trying to reach and hit the player's human
opponents.
According to Paolo Pescatore, Senior Analyst at IDC,
who had the opportunity to play one of the first Xploded
games in Cannes: "Ubiquitous massive multi-player gaming,
so gamers can play where and when they want, creates
an exciting new mass market revenue opportunity for
mobile service providers. What Alcatel and BeTomorrow
have achieved is an impressive end-to-end delivery solution
that ensures consumers get the mobile gaming experience
they desire and that mobile operators and others in
the gaming value chain get to translate mobile gaming
to bottom-line profits."
"Alcatel is strongly committed to the rapid adoption
of innovative multimedia services. BeTomorrow's experience
in on-line entertainment made them the perfect partner
to create high quality inventive applications that illustrate
the service-enabling capabilities of 3G. Alcatel and
BeTomorrow are accelerating their fruitful partnership
in the development and marketing of on-line and multiplayer
gaming solutions. ", added Marc Rouanne, chief operating
officer of Alcatel's mobile activities.
"We've created an exceptional game through our partnership
with Alcatel", said Sylvie Clin, CEO of BeTomorrow.
"With Xploded, players will enjoy the thrill of huge
multiplayer games anytime, anywhere".
