26 February 2004 - The ninth annual GSM Association
Awards provided an evening to remember last night as
the industry recognised the innovations, inventions
and ingenuity of organisations and individuals across
the GSM world. The ceremony was hosted by CNBC presenter
Louise Bojesen at the Martinez Hotel in Cannes
Rob Conway, CEO of the GSM Association, said: It
becomes increasingly difficult to find ways of describing
the talent of the thousands of people behind GSM. The
innovation and creativity displayed in this years
entries for the GSM Association Awards help explain
why we have just celebrated the connection of the billionth
GSM user.
The highlight of the GSM Awards is the presentation
of the prestigious GSM Association Chairmans Award.
The 2004 GSMA Chairmans Award is presented
to China Mobile in honour and recognition of the companys
outstanding contribution to achieving the GSM One Billion
landmark, said Craig Ehrlich, GSMA Chairman. Serving
nearly 170 million people, China Mobiles contributions
to the development of Chinas economy and the global
success of GSM have been enormous.
The Chairmans Award was collected by the President
of China Mobile, Mr Zhang Ligui, on his first visit
to the 3GSM World Congress.
The 2004 GSM Association Awards were sponsored by Intel,
Microsoft, Vodafone, Nortel, Nokia and Convergys.
