| 4th May 2004 - Among the heaviest users of both voice
and data wireless services, mobile business users represent
a key customer segment for all wireless service providers.
A new report from In-Stat/MDR polled these critical business
users to further explore what they are looking for in
converged devices. The survey found that business users
mostly want help staying connected to customers and colleagues,
and to their important data. And, while business users
have a mixed bag of desires when it comes to their cell
phones, they want the basics, like speakerphones and email
capability, and practical features, like an extended battery
life.
The survey also revealed the following with regards
to mobile business users:
- They prefer top handset brands, like Nokia and Motorola,
and, to a lesser extent, Sony Ericsson and Samsung.
- They are open to new handset features, but these
and related services must offer real benefits, such
as wireless e-mail; embedded cameras, for instance,
are not highly desired.
- On price, they would pay more for certain features,
but only at a modest level; the majority expect to
pay $150 or less for their next cell phones.
This Market Alert is drawn from the In-Stat/MDR report,
"Mobile
Device Strategies: Business User Preferences for Converging
Devices", which explores how business users
rated their willingness to spend more for new features
on their next phones.
