27th August 2004 - Alcatel today announced the launch
of its first Next Generation Network (NGN) Reality Centre
in Asia Pacific located in the headquarters of Alcatel
Shanghai Bell, Alcatel's flagship Chinese company, in
Shanghai, China. The new Reality Centre will be operated
and managed by Alcatel Shanghai Bell.
Established following the one in Antwerp, Belgium,
the new Center provides an open service delivery environment
for design and testing of NGN based user-centric broadband
services to meet the ever-growing demand for such services
in China and the rest of Asia Pacific region. Through
partnership with key industry players such as IBM and
HP, a variety of NGN-based services and applications
like soft phone, multimedia video conferencing, IP Centrex,
IP PBX and WLAN phone will be commercially ready in
the Centre.
Alcatel is a leading NGN solution supplier in China
and in the Asia Pacific region. In 2003, the company
was awarded China Telecom's first commercial NGN contract.
In May 2004, Alcatel was named the Next Generation Infrastructure
Vendor of the Year 2004 by Frost & Sullivan, a leading
telecom market consulting firm. Alcatel also just closed
a large NGN deal with Jiangsu Nelecom, a China Netcom's
subsidiary.
"The launch of this NGN Reality Centre marks an important
milestone for Alcatel in China. The Reality Centre fully
demonstrates our capabilities to innovate and develop
broadband services that end users will value, " said
Gerard Dega, President of Alcatel Shanghai Bell. "To
date, we have delivered more than 1 million NGN lines
to telecom operators in Asia Pacific. Together with
our NGN OPEN strategy, I am confident that the new NGN
Reality Centre will enable Alcatel to better serve our
customers' business growth requirements," he added.
Open Path to Enhanced Networking (OPEN) is Alcatel's
global strategy for its NGN business. Alcatel's NGN
OPEN strategy supports telecom operators in service
innovation, provides them with the flexibility to grow
in both fixed and mobile services as well as offering
them a cost-effective migration of the installed voice
base. As a result, the operators will be able to generate
more revenues and increase their market opportunities.
