Breakthrough for ip.access to supply nanoGSM™ technology [Back to News Reports]

27th September 2004 - ip.access ltd. today announced that its distributor, Intex Systems Pte Ltd, has reached an agreement with SMART to supply its nanoGSM™ technology for new services aimed at SMART’s corporate customers. The agreement was reached following extensive trials and thorough testing of the solution. Full commercial deployment is expected in early October.

The solution is initially targeted at providing innovative solutions to SMART’s corporate customer base. SMART, which has some 16.1 million users on its GSM network (as of June 30, 2004), will integrate the ip.access equipment within its existing infrastructure, making use of the cost savings associated with connecting the basestations into the core infrastructure over IP networks.

The announcement of today’s contract is a breakthrough success for ip.access in the Asia market. ip.access, in partnership with Intex Systems, is exhibiting at the 3GSM World Congress Asia 2004 (stand A16) in Singapore from 27 to 29 September 2004.

Commenting on today’s announcement, Mark Pittick, Vice President Sales and Marketing, ip.access said, “We are delighted to have gained approval to deploy nanoGSM technology within the SMART network. Having proven that we can deliver coverage and capacity with rapid deployment and low ongoing operating costs, we look forward to extending this success throughout the Asian market.”

“We are pleased to have reached this agreement with SMART”, said Erich Paulini, Managing Director of Intex Systems. “It underlines Intex Systems’ commitment and ability to supply, deploy and support innovative solutions in the Philippines.”

The ip.access nanoBTS is a GSM pico-basestation able to deliver cellular voice and data services in the smallest and most cost-effective package available today. Through the innovation of using IP as the backhaul medium, the nanoBTS provides coverage and capacity simply and efficiently. The nanoBTS is part of the ip.access nanoGSM™ solution, which allows network operators to boost mobile phone coverage in traditionally hard-to-reach areas, enabling new applications such as Wireless Office.
