16th December 2004 - NEC UK Ltd (NEC) is further
extending its portfolio of i-modeTM handsets in
Europe, with the launch of the N401i. Following
the success of NECs large portfolio of i-mode
handsets within Europe, the N401i handset incorporates
video and camera features and an MP3 player. The
N401i will initially be supplied to KPN in the
Netherlands.
The N401is sleek clamshell design is filled
with innovative features and all the latest must-have
functions. Users are not only able to shoot and
send video, but can also take consecutive shots
of people or views on the move using the cameras
new 9 x Burst mode. The 4 x MPEG4 video camera
incorporates a nightlight, ensuring that night
time memories can also be captured.
Those interested in still photography can use
the 300K pixels integrated camera to capture unforgettable
experiences. There are seven picture formats designed
to maximise creativity and picture quality: standard,
sepia, monochrome, negative, darkness, person
and room and users also have the option of a 10
second self-timer with a countdown LED and sound.
Clips can be sent to fellow i-mode users via
i-mode mail, to other mobile users via MMS, or
e-mailed to a PC anywhere in the world. Alternatively,
users may simply wish to browse the photographs
taken on the N401is 65,536 colour QVGA screen.
Those wanting to personalise their handset can
add images to display on the external LCD colour
screen, as well as ringtones based on incoming
caller ID.

The N401i ensures that users have always-on access
to email and the internet anytime, anywhere, all from
their mobile phone. The handset is also JAVATM enabled
so consumers have all of the latest applications and
games available at their fingertips. Alongside this,
the inbuilt MP3 player means that no user will ever
be without a source of entertainment whilst on the move.
The N401i also boasts tri-band functionality allowing
the user to stay connected in five continents - ideal
for the regular traveller.
NEC is at the forefront of i-mode innovation and development
and is the largest i-mode handset manufacturer in Japan,
supplying NTT DoCoMo. In March 2002, NEC launched the
first ever i-mode handset in Europe, the n21i, which
was supplied for the launch of KPN Mobiles i-mode
service. NEC also provides i-mode devices to BASE in
Belgium, Bouygues Telecom in France, COSMOTE in Greece,
E-Plus in Germany, FarEast Tone in Taiwan, Telefonica
in Spain and WIND in Italy.
