18th January 2005 - m-spatial, the Mobile Spatial Intelligence
specialist, today announced Vodafone Germany as the
first international customer for MapWay, its turn-key
suite of maps and walking directions services for use
on mass market mobile phones.
Cambridge UK-based m-spatial has integrated its unique
MapWay maps and directions services into the German
presence of Vodafone live!, which now has over 3.6 million
customers in Germany.
The unique user experience provided by the MapWay application
suite (including m-spatials revolutionary made
to measure mapping) is made possible by the use
of the m-spatial Spatial Platform as the basis for service
delivery.
m-spatial CEO Andy Walker commented: Vodafone
Germany wanted a proven suite of maps and directions
applications which would provide a compelling user interface
to all users of Vodafone live, whatever their handset.
Our success with Vodafone live! in the UK provided that
proof. The successful internationalisation of the user
interface, use of local content, and speed of integration
with the Vodafone Germany network underlines both the
global and scaleable nature of our solution. Working
with Vodafone Germany further strengthens our relationship
with the Vodafone group and we are delighted to play
our part in helping launch new compelling consumer services.
The new MapWay services are available via the Unterwegs
section of Vodafone live! Using the mapping and walking
directions services, the user can quickly and easily
specify locations for which they require maps or walking
directions. In addition to the use of the automatic
location feed within both these services, the Where
am I? (Wo bin ich?) service satisfies
the specific need for users to understand where they
are and receive a map within a single click.
Walker continued: Following the initial success
of the MapWay application suite in the UK, we are delighted
to complete the first stage of our international roll-out
and deliver MapWay to Vodafone Germany.
