| 21st February 2005 - The Siemens Communications Group
is adding new GPRS radio modules for machine-to-machine
(M2M) communication to its product portfolio. The new
functions include a world-first in the form of the Java-based
and quadband-capable TC65 module, which can be used in
all GSM networks. The Java TM Open Software-Platform makes
it possible to control the customer application with components
integrated on the module, such as a processor or memory.
The TC65 is also available as a plug-and-play terminal
version with standard interfaces. This enables fast and
simple integration of the product into the customer applications,
e.g. an alarm system. A further module, also offering
these standardized mobile radio and connection capabilities,
is the TC63 which is intended primarily for integration
into simple M2M applications, such as vending machines.
Both modules will be available from Siemens and specialist
dealers from April 2005.
The Java-support provided by the TC65 gives developers
a complete hard- and software platform for a simple
and fast realization of M2M applications. The u se of
the integrated module components, such as the powerful
processor and a comprehensive flash memory for the customer
software, allows system integrators to save material
costs and bring their products to market more quickly.
The Java-module includes the latest Information Mobile
Profile (IMP) Version 2.0 and supports wireless software
updates over the air interface (OTAP = over the
air provisioning) and secure data transfer through
HTTPS and PKI-standard . The TC65 is also available
as a terminal variant with a robust housing and all
standard connections.
The TC65 combines the Java programming function with
premium mobile communication functionalities including
quadband technology, which allows the module to be used
in all GSM networks worldwide. A GPRS Class 12 device
(class 12 is currently the highest GPRS class), it also
offers an integrated TCP/IP stack for IP-based services
over GRPS connections. All of these functions are also
available without the Java TM open software platform
in the lower priced TC63.
The modules TC65, TC63 and TC65 Terminal have a wide
range of interfaces for straightforward integration
into M2M applications. I 2 C bus, SPI bus, USB, serial
and A/D and D/A converters are just a few of the alternatives
provided.
The new lead-free products are produced in accordance
with the EU guidelines governing the restriction of
use of hazardous substances in electrical and electronic
devices (RoHS) and thus already fulfill all the relevant
conditions one year before the corresponding law comes
into effect.
The Siemens Communications Operating Group is one of
the leading providers in the global telecommunication
industry. Siemens is the only company in the sector
to offer its customers a complete portfolio from terminals
for consumers to complex network infrastructures for
companies and operators together with the associated
services. Siemens Communications is the world leader
in innovation in the fields of convergent technologies
and products and services for mobile, fixed and corporate
networks.
