19th April 2005 - For the first time a new single will
be released on a mobile phone prior to being for sale
in the stores. With MusicDownloads, from 28 April Vodafone
customers can download the new hit single "Something
To Say" by Kane exclusively on their Vodafone live!
UMTS handset, a few days before it is for sale in the
stores. With this, Vodafone customers are the first
in the Netherlands to be able to purchase the new Kane
release.
Besides this, customers enjoy more benefits with Vodafone
live! UMTS. They can win tickets for try-out concerts
by Kane and view interviews, photographs and video reports
with Kane on their mobile phone.
With this Kane scoop Vodafone underlines its ambitions
as market leader in UMTS. It is a logical step after
the introduction on 18 April of the new service MusicDownloads
which enables Vodafone customers to download full music
tracks on their mobile phone from an extensive catalogue
of 500,000 music tracks. For the music industry as well,
the mobile phone becomes ever more important.
Jurgen Post, general manager Sony BMG Netherlands:
"All trends show that the mobile phone is an ideal
way also for the music industry to reach large numbers
of music lovers in an easy way. It is an enormous boost
for both artists and music labels if this will contribute
to an increase of legal music downloads."
