25th April 2005 - Nepal is to receive mobile data services
for the first time under a contract announced today
between ZTE Corporation, Chinas largest listed
telecommunications manufacturer and leading wireless
solutions provider, and Nepal Telecom.
 |
Under the contract, ZTE, now the largest
telecommunications equipment supplier in Nepal,
will provide 10,000 lines of GPRS data services,
offering customers continuous high-speed wireless
connection to the Internet. ZTE will also supply
one million lines of GSM equipment to build a state-of-the-art
network to cover the Kathmandu valley following
the dismantling and relocation of all the existing
base transceiver stations (BTSs) in the valley. |
We are delighted that Nepal Telecom has continued
its partnership with ZTE, said Mr Zhang Renjun,
VP of ZTE Corporation in South Asia. This is a
measure of ZTEs ability to supply cost-effective,
world-class telecommunications solutions to meet operators
needs.
This is the latest partnership between ZTE and Nepal
Telecom: last year the Corporation announced that it
is to supply Nepal Telecom with one million lines of
CDMA equipment - the largest telecommunications project
in Nepals history.
Todays contract win follows other successes in
the region, including an announcement earlier this month
that ZTE is to supply Indian telecoms giant Atlas Interactive
with IPTV equipment in a contract valued at US$209 million.
ZTE has also announced plans to increase its manufacturing
capability in the region, with facilities due to open
in India and Pakistan.
ZTEs GSM cellular mobile system has been deployed
in over 20 countries around the world, with over 40
million subscriber lines.
