11th May 2005 - Tom Tom has released the latest
mobile gadget in the UK, Tom Tom Mobile 5 satellite
navigation, for those with little or no sense
of directions.
The TomTom Mobile 5 personal navigation system
allows users to get directions from their mobile
phone and displays a 3D map on the phone screen
to show them where to go.
The big idea is that pedestrians and cyclists
apparently want something similar to in-car satellite
navigation systems.

All you have to do is insert a memory card with pre-installed
maps and software into your phone along with a separate
Bluetooth wireless GPS receiver.
The system picks up where you are via satellite and
then gives you directions using the mapping software.
Manufacturers say that it is accurate to within 50cm.
If connected to the internet, it will even be able to
provide a weather forecast for whichever area the pedestrian
is going to, but if you are walking chances are that
the weather in your target location is not going to
be that different.
The Mobile 5 will cost you £200 in crisp notes.
It probably will not work if you are too drunk to press
the keys, which is when most of us need help walking
home.
