8th August 2005 - Huawei Technologies today raised the bar
in mobile communications with the launch of a dual-mode 3G
handset that supports UMTS, GPRS and GSM networks. Designed
to work on 3G and 2G networks around the world, this multimedia
power phone delivers excellent audio/video capabilities to
provide consumers with the ultimate experience in entertainment
and communications.
"Our new 3G handset features an integration of a variety
of functions, high-end configuration and a fashionable footprint
to meet the needs of our customers. The Huawei U636 is built
to offer high-quality performance with a focus on multimedia
entertainment as well as speed for work usage," says
Li Cheng Jun, director of Mobile Marketing Department, Huawei
Technologies. "The industry has commented that the lack
of handsets is one of the reasons why the 3G market has been
unable to develop to its full potential. Since November last
year, Huawei has continuously launched five models of 3G terminals
to provide telecom operators and mobile subscribers with more
choices."

To meet the needs of the mobile worker, Huawei U636 offers
always-on, always-connected voice and data services such as
email, MMS, and mobile broadband access to multimedia content,
live video streaming and video conferencing. The handset supports
Java games and applications software and features built-in
wireless modem, WAP 2.0 browser, Bluetooth connection and
PC synchronization with Bluetooth via USB. In addition, the
U636 has a memory of 40 Megabytes and a maximum capacity of
1 Gigahertz.
Users looking for a digital imaging experience in their phone
will find the U636 equipped with a 180 ?nbsp; rotatable 1.3
mega pixels digital camera that supports 4x digital zooming
for photo and video capture. With a color display resolution
of 262K and dual color TFT screens, entertainment-focused
users can expect a bright color display of while viewing their
pictures and videos. The U636 is expected to be rolled out
globally starting from August.
This new 3G offering from Huawei Technologies follows the
global launch of the company's UMTS terminals in November
2004. In June this year, Huawei Technologies' first 3G phone,
the U626, was awarded "Best 3G Phone" by Charlton
Media Group in its 2005 Asian Mobile News Award, making Huawei
Technologies the only Chinese mobile phone manufacturer to
win an award.
