SMS may replace parking tickets in Hungary [Back to News Reports]

9th August 2005 - Mobile telephone users can already pay for parking in parking zones operated by Centrum Parkoló Kft. (districts 1, 2, 6, 7, 11 and 12 of Budapest) by sending an SMS.

From today onwards T-Mobile’s customers can arrange the whole payment process in SMS, as users of the Mobile Shopping service can charge their parking balance by debiting their monthly telephone invoice or from their m-com balance.

SMS replaces Parking Tickets

In the area managed by Centrum Parkoló Kft. there will be no need to search pockets for small change or look for the parking ticket vending machine. In addition, by sending a single SMS one can easily extend the parking time paid, without having to go to the parking ticket vending machine on several occasions. Due to the co-operation of the parking association and T-Mobile on the long run parking tickets will be fully replaced by SMS.

As a benefit of mobile phone based parking fee payment, one can indicate the starting and ending times of parking, while the due amount will be deducted from the parking balance managed by Centrum Parkoló Kft based on an agreement signed earlier. T-Mobile customers can also recharge this balance from August by sending an SMS. All it takes is sending "3000" to mobile phone number 30/4444-222 and approving the shopping transaction by sending a confirmation message. The balance therefore increases by HUF 3,000. The transaction fee is an additional HUF 300.

T-Mobile postpaid customers can recharge their parking balance, as "parking tickets" purchased with SMS can be paid afterwards, in the monthly bill - up to the amount specified with the Mobile Shopping transaction. Domino prepaid card users need to charge their m-com balance before they use the service. Charging the balance is possible with OTP Bank, K&H Bank, Takarékbank, Volksbank and the ATMs of Euronet, as well as with CIB Internet Bank, CIB WAP Bank and in T-Mobile’s shops. T-Mobile customers holding a T-Mobile credit card can also charge their m-com balance with their mobile phones.
