11th October 2005 - Navicore today announces the UK availability
of Navicore Personal Europe 2005, a complete GPS package which
enables users to turn their Symbian-based mobile phones into
a full satellite navigation system with comprehensive Western
European road map availability.
The package includes Navicore’s easy-to-use GPS software,
the latest generation Bluetooth Sirf III GPS receiver and
leather case, a manual and charger, a 256 MB memory card,
memory card reader/writer and a DVD containing maps for eight
regions: the UK, Benelux, France, Germany, Italy, Scandinavia(1),
Iberia(2), and the Alpine regions (3).
William Morgan, Navicore’s UK distributor, says, “Out
of the box we are offering a complete GPS solution for people
wanting to drive in Europe. Digital map material is provided
by Tele Atlas which is highly detailed, easy to read, includes
loads of points of interest information and has comprehensive
road data right down to street numbers. And it’s the
same level of detail throughout Europe, all running on your
mobile phone.”
Navicore Personal features the fastest mapping and routing
technology available as it has been specifically designed
for the mobile phone. This means that calculating routes of
hundreds of miles takes only a few seconds. Navicore Personal
is reliable and easy-to-use, and does not require technical
‘know how’ or any complicated adjusting of settings.
The Navicore Personal European DVD runs on PCs with Microsoft
Windows 2000 and XP operating systems and has support for
some 22 different mobile phones, making it very convenient
solution should customers change handsets at a later stage.
All that users need to do is load the DVD onto their PCs,
choose the configuration of maps they want on their card and
the automatic installer creates a ‘plug and play’
memory card which can be inserted quickly into the phone.
Morgan explains, “With all the maps on one DVD, it’s
a very simple process which takes seconds rather than fiddling
about with multiple CD-ROMs which hold less data. And, while
we provide a 256MB card out of the box, if you install a larger
1 GB memory card for example, you could have maps for four
or five countries on your phone.”
When multiple maps are put on one memory card, Navicore includes
a map switcher application which is automatically installed
on the card and allows users to choose among the maps on the
memory card without rebooting or any other procedures.
Navicore Personal Europe 2005 is available at O2 stores nationwide

retail price(4) of £279.99 for Symbian series 60 and
80 mobile phones and £289.99 for Symbian UIQ handsets.
For existing Navicore Personal users who already have the
GPS receiver, Navicore software and charger, European map
capability can be added by buying just the DVD for a recommended
retail price of £139.99 for series 60 and 80 phones,
and £149.99 for UIQ. As part of this package, a 256
MB card and memory card reader/writer (5) is included.
Similarly, individual countries can be bought at £99.99
(recommended retail price) if all is required is one further
country for example – the Navicore approach to providing
its customers map upgrades is totally flexible.
