26th October - Celltick, an interactive idle-screen
broadcast applications service provider, today announced that
Russian mobile operator, VimpelCom (NYSE: VIP) has ordered
an additional three million user licences for its Chameleon
service.
Launched in April 2005, VimpelCom's Chameleon service, which
is based on Celltick's LiveScreen technology, is already available
to more than 6.4 million customers in Russia and is on track
to reach its target of 10 million users by the end of the
year.
The service sends streams of free news headlines, sport reports,
weather updates, music stories, gossip and games to be sent
directly to mobile phone screens. Just like a screen saver,
the messages appear silently when the phone is not in use.
When VimpelComs customers see a message of interest
they simply click on the OK button. A menu then opens and
presents various options. For example, a video news report
or an automatic link to a WAP site, a web page, or an SMS
message with more information.
Guy Weiss, VP European sales at Celltick, said: We
are delighted to have this show of confidence from one of
our largest customers. Content Discovery is one of the biggest
opportunities for mobile operators today and our system enables
them to promote multiple content services to subscribers.
Together VimpelCom and Celltick have categorically proven
that, by bringing content directly to a mass market, an idle
screen content discovery service will increase both data traffic
and revenues.
Victor Markelov, product director at VimpelCom, said: We
are very pleased with the results of our collaboration with
Celltick. Our joint solution enables us to distribute mobile
content rapidly and effectively Chameleon is a service
appreciated by our customers.
On 27th September 2005 at The GTB Conference (Convergence
in Consumer Market) in London, Victor Markelov, Product Director
at VimpelCom, discussed the success of the Chameleon service
with an international audience of senior decision-makers in
the telecom industry.
Celltick is also exhibiting at the GSM Central and Eastern
Europe 2005 show in Zagreb, Croatia which is taking place
today and tomorrow (25-26 October). It will be demonstrating
its products to regional mobile network operators attending
