NEC Aim to Maximise 3G Opportunities in the UK [Back to News Reports]
8th November 2006 - NEC UK has invested in a dynamic new team to take on the challenges operators are facing from shrinking revenues from their traditional revenue streams, the strategic complexities of convergence and maximising the opportunities from 3G in the UK.

The new organisation in the Mobile Network Solutions Division (MNSD) is designed to match the ongoing market requirement for a European-based solutions focus - not just on hardware - but also proven innovative solutions and services.

The move has seen the development of a senior team focused on dedicated account management, new opportunity development and portfolio sales. The account management team will look after all major accounts, while new opportunity development will look at business development and portfolio sales will focus on developing NEC solutions and selling to existing accounts and new prospects.

This is an exciting step forward for the NEC UK division which has a strong pedigree for delivering highly complex projects efficiently with its broad range of capabilities from delivery and installation, to project management and support services. The division was responsible for the 3G Network for 3UK and 3Ireland where they delivered one of the fastest network roll-outs ever seen, delivering more than 150 sites in a week. NEC UK has delivered O2’s Mobile Internet Platform for i-mode, equipment provision for NTL’s DWDM platform, trunk radio for the UK’s largest telecommunications company and Pasolink Microwave Radio for multiple customers, amongst many other successful deployments.

“As we step up our reach into the UK market through the dedicated team, NEC UK builds on a proven track record of its implementations in this country and sets the standard for others who are still talking about delivering solutions,” said Kevin Buckley, Director of MNSD for NEC UK.

“With a new team in place, we will enhance our UK position in NGN by developing NEC’s leading products as customer solution portfolios. In addition, we will be able to provide the UK market with early access to information and solutions based on the latest developments in the East through direct access to our leading-edge Japanese operation.”

Leading the Teams

Jeremy Preston will head the account management team with responsibilities for NEC UK’s major accounts focused on relationship management, business development opportunities and developing – where necessary – European customer account teams. Jeremy previously worked at Siemens for seven years where as part of its Global Account Management Programmes, he help secure a position for Siemens in one of the industry’s largest next generation networks projects. Jeremy has great insight to operator relationships and requirements, having working at Global One and France Telecom for five years.

Aldo Strawbridge will lead the portfolio sales team, consisting of product experts chartered with developing solution portfolios from hardware through to support, which meet market requirements. Aldo joins from Siemens where he helped deliver a comprehensive service to high profile customers and organisations. With more than 33 years of experience in the telecommunications industry, his experience will help NEC provide compelling solutions to help reverse shrinking revenues and customer churn.

With the new opportunity development team, Tim Cobley will find and develop new customers as well as engaging the portfolio sales team to ensure the market focus of the solution portfolios. Tim has worked in a variety of sales and marketing roles in the telecommunications industries for over 16 years. His tenure at Nortel lasted 11 years focusing mainly on wireless core and access sales to international mobile operators provides the insight to drive NEC into new areas of clients’ business.

Kevin Buckley concluded: “We have taken the initiative in this highly competitive market to provide expertise where it matters most – in front of the customer – and are developing our solutions portfolio strategy based on innovative technology.”
