Source: M:Metrics. Reports for the month of April are projected
to represent the universe of smartphone owners and are based
on in-tab panel sizes of approximately 500 panelists in the
United States and 600 panelists in the United Kingdom.
The data above is derived from M:Metrics' proprietary panel
of metered smartphone device owners, selected to represent
a population which accounts for a highly disproportionate
share of mobile data services usage. Smartphone users browse
the Web, download applications and consume multimedia programming
such as music and video at up to six times the rate of owners
of other handsets.
The patent-pending M:Meter continuously and unobtrusively
monitors messaging, browsing, application and media usage
and powers M:Metrics' MeterDirect Syndicated Measurement Service.
Smartphone usage is driving the emerging mobile Web and this
will be one of the keys to advertising-based business models.
According to M:Metrics data, more than one-third of smartphone
browsers are using the Web almost every day and on average.
Smartphone owners drive a disproportionate share of revenue
for mobile operators and content providers and understanding
their behavior is a key to understanding how to best monetize
the mobile medium.
